HI-RANGE CRANE FORKS

FAQs

Hi-Range Crane Forks services all of New South Wales, which has been declared a COVID-19 hotspot. However, movement within New South Wales has not been restricted except to Lord Howe Island due to its limited capacity for medical care. To serve Lord Howe Island, our operators would have to quarantine for fourteen days at their own expense, so, unfortunately, we cannot service this area at this time.

We look forward to seeing our wonderful Lord Howe Island customers again when it is safe to do so.

We are still proudly providing the rest of New South Wales with hi-rail equipment for wet or dry hire. Some of our most popular service areas include Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, Campbelltown, Gosford and the Central Coast. If you have any questions about the locations we serve or are a New South Wales resident seeking a free quote, don’t hesitate to call us. We’ll get you an answer as soon as possible.

Can you still service my area during lockdown?

We provide railway slope stabilisation or rail embankment stabilisation as a service.

Railway embankments are constructed slopes that railway lines sit atop. Embankments are soil structures that allow the railway lines to pass at an acceptable level and gradient to the surrounding ground. Railway lines need correct drainage and to be at the correct gradient (or angle) to function safely and last as long as possible; sometimes putting them atop an embankment helps with that.

Railway embankment stabilisation is needed when the embankment constructed for the railway is made of or over poor subgrade, challenging the stability of the embankment. This occurs through erosion of the soil and can damage the drainage structures of the embankment, as well as take away the land under the railway line, destabilising trains that may pass over it.

Simply using a train line can erode the embankment, as the pressure exerted by traffic on the line is redirected to the ground, which may not be strong enough to last under continued pressure. Erosion of an embankment can occur over time, so may need to be stabilised more than once in its lifetime.

Some methods of railway embankment stabilisation include building retaining walls and/or vibro stone columns, replacing the soil, installing geocells and planting vegetation to prevent erosion over a temporary erosion control mat.

We provide railway embankment stabilisation services to New South Wales. If you need a railway embankment stabilised, call us for a free quote or fill out our online enquiry form.

What is railway slope/ embankment stabilisation?

Hi-rail (highway-railway) equipment – also called rail-road vehicles – is equipment with dual capability to operate both on rail tracks and a conventional road. They are fitted with normal tyres and additional flanged steel wheels for running on rails. The flanged steel wheels can be raised and lowered as needed, so they don’t scrape against the road when not on a railway. They are free-rolling (friction driven) on the railway, propelled by the road tyres or can be completely hydraulic driven depending on the vehicle.

Hi-rail equipment is used for railway maintenance and construction, especially useful when there isn’t enough space to work beside the railway. It can also be useful in the final journey to a worksite that might only have a railway leading to it – which is especially common in mining applications.
Road-rail vehicles are converted road vehicles, meaning they work on the road first and foremost. Hi-rail equipment is versatile in that it can be used elsewhere than the railway line.

Hi-Range Crane Forks provides a range of hi-rail equipment for use either on the railway or off it. Our fleet includes telehandlers, hi-rail cranes, hi-rail EWPs and hi-rail trucks for wet or dry hire. Browse our diverse range of versatile machines today.
